He received his Degree in Medicine from the University of Athens in 1971. He then continued his studies in England, where he received his FRCS degree, following examinations, in 1979. From 1978 to 1981, he served as Registrar in Urology and Research fellow in Urodynamics at Westminster Hospital in London. Upon returning to Greece, he was appointed at the Urology clinic of the University of Athens, where he remained until 2004, reaching the rank of Associate Professor. In 2004, he was appointed Professor of Urology and Director of the Urology Clinic at the University of Crete. Mr. Sofras is greatly interested in the education of young urologists. Since 1989, he has been particularly active on the European Board of Urology, serving as National representative and as member of the Examinations Committee and as an examiner for the EBU examinations. In 1992, he received the title of Fellow at EBU. He also served as a member of the Editorial Board of the 'Update Series' journal and participated in the group of the European Association of Urology that issued its first Guidelines. From 2000 to 2004, he served as the Director of a resident education programme recognised by EBU at the 2nd Urology clinic of the University of Athens. In 2004, he received an award for his services by the European Association of Urology. Mr. Sofras is a reviewer for international journals. He has participated as a speaker or coordinator in conferences held in Greece and abroad and has received prizes at three European and three Greek conferences for his presentations. His international publications number 69 (PubMed) and his Greek publications number 21. Since 2004 he has been publishing the journal 'Modern Urology'.
